After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
Not seen this posted anywhere before - just about to fit a Scorpion Can to my K7 650, before cutting off the original silencer, @ 55mm from the weld, I tried to remove the short stainless exhaust cover, which covers this section of the pipe only to discover that the 2 allen key bolts that retain it have been spot welded to the nut on the other side of the clamps..... as they are on the back of the exhaust they are a bitch to get too, anyone had this problem?
I was hoping to not distroy the stainless cover thing and try and re-fit it to cover the connecting pipe clips 1 other question, remove the catalyst or not? if yes, do they come out easy? do any bits drop into the bottom of the header pipes? Cheers in advance Mike |
Re: After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
Had the same problem on my K9, A Dremmel or similar tool is called for. I cut through the centre of the bolt which meant little or NO damage elsewhere then removed the remainder of the "welded" stud by grinding whilst held in a vice, replaced the bolts with new S/S ones and managed to re-fit the cover over the new jubilee's??
Leave everything else in place when you make the cut at 55mm from the weld you should just clear the "honeycomb" part of the internal catalyst. Hope this helps, JOHN |
Re: After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
I cut my cover off, couldnt be bothered to break the weld.
about the cat, i took mine out, nice and easy with a screwdriver. then i fired it up without a can on to blow out anything that droped in (and i wanted to hear the noise). Wack the can on and your away. HTH |
Re: After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
Re the cover - just get your allen key with a spanner on the end and give it some, the heads break off the allen bolts then you can grind off the weld when the covers off
Left my Cat in place and fitted Scorpion Can with exhaust heat shield providing the clamp for the top joint, looks a treat and sounds great! |

Re: After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
I had a scorpian on mine, sounded awesome.
Wtf do suzuki do that with the covers, welding the fooking bolt to the nut, i just forced mine. Leave the cat in imo, no need to take it out, will it affect emissions for the mot? |
Re: After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
unbolted mine off the gixer and chucked it in the garage :) my mot place dont check emissions on bikes.

Re: After Market Exhaust Fitting - K7
I was a numpty and didn't even look behind to notice it was welded, the allen bolts snapped pretty sharpish once I'd leant on the allen key! ;)
