Petrol Tank position

Now I think I know the answers but its always good to get a 2nd opionion and get it right.

Can you raise the front mounting points of the petrol tank by putting spacers between the frame and the tank?

Can you put rubber spacers under the tank (towards the rear of the tank) where its close to the frame (kinda close to where your knees go)? These look like standard to me, but I could be wrong.

Can you remove the foam from the underneath of the petrol tank?

Thanks

No for minitwins. yes for track days.

No tank raisers allowed in Minitwin regs.

"The petrol tank must remain as originally produced by the manufacturer for the homologated machine although it may be refinished if required. The position of the tank mounting points on the frame must remain as standard."

As above re the tank risers. The bits you refer to in the above para ive pasted are stock on the bike when new so are legal as they stop the tank rubbing on the frame rail.

Hi, sorry for what may seem a daft question but what is the advantage of raising the tank? Would it not raise centre of gravity and make it harder to change direction? Is it an SV specific mod?

Less restrictive flow (and cooler) air to the air box.

They are also vibration dampers, do not remove them as tank can crack.

Maybe I'm reading more into this than I should but if that is a direct quote from the regs then I would suggest you can use spacers. It doesn't say the position of the tank has to stay the same, just the tank itself and the position of the mounting points on the frame, and these aren't changing are they.

Thanks for all the replys so far

I thought the rear rubber bits were standard, so its good to have that confirmed.

I've read that rule about tank position and interpretation is a wonderful thing! I took it to mean that spacers were not allowed.

Can anyone tell me if there was ever anything (like a soft foam) attached to the underside of the tank? It doesn't make any sense to have foam stuck there as it would virtually seal the airbox up and not allow any air in but my tank looks like having a slight residue on the underside as though something was there once. It may be that its been repainted so many times and its a build up of overspray.

It comes with a foam pad that bsi there primarily as a sound deadening application.

Its not fitted to my tank :)

It is also there to get stuck to filter and make you spend ages looking for a carb fault :-P
