ATA HDD Password
 

Any one know how to remove/recover?
I just got a job lot of HDD's are a few of them are password protected.
Formatting in windows/dos/Linux just falls over. <<Was worth a try I knew it wouldn't work before I started.
I have tried to flash the FW with several different revisions which failed and i have tried to run a whole bunch of programs with no success.
Been on this now since 5pm and I am giving up :|

never had this issue, have you checked all the tools on hirens boot cd?

I was under the impression it couldn't be done - but probably ********. Scan the net for tools. I've unlocked one before with a tool but it wasn't a 'supervisor password' I don't think.

Google the partnumbers, you can usually find technical manuals on them.

I used to have an external Low Lever Formatting device. No os or software. Just pug it in and press a button. An hour later (depending on capacity) the disc was clean. If the encryption occurs in the FW, then you may need a service code to be able to rewrite the firmware in which case will probably be cheaper to get another drive.

Tried this before I posted, couldn't seem to get it to unlock will have another bash tonight.

looks to be a tool called ATAPWD 1.2 on the website but I cannot see it on my disk. will have a look at downloading this tonight and will let you know if it works.
