looking to buy a new PC
 

looking for a new desktop unit, ive had my current one for about 5 years + and its really slow playing new games etc

dont really want to spend a huge amount, but want something decent for online games etc.

cheapest one i am looking at with a decent spec is either:

the £499 one, ive looked at a few custom pc websites and they seem to be really expensive and not as good spec as the dell.

min spec i am after is roughly:

itel dual core 2.6ghz,
4gb ram (DDR3)
512 or 1gb graphics card (ati or nvida)
500gb hard drive


any feedback greatly appreciated

I've got a really good spec PC and it was about £300 all in (apart from graphics which were another £150 a bit later)

Aldi do pc's every now and again
Its where i got mine over a yr ago, and for the coin the spec was top notch!

Its all about the gpu, get the system which has the best one within your budget.

Don't know enough to build it all from
scratch, I have added bits, ram
chnaged fans etc but nothing major. The aldi one looks good buy the dell
one seems a better spec for a bit more

If you know what part it what inside the case then you can build a PC, its so simple these days.

I am a bit out of touch on PC hardware these days but you could buy the items below for £380 and use it to upgrade your existing PC. You might need a new power supply as well and if you are running out of space another hard drive.

As has been said before the memory on the graphics card is a lot less important than the GPU speed, usual rule of thumb with graphics cards is more expensive = faster. Get the best you can afford.

Only thing to watch out on when ordering parts is make sure the processor fits the motherboard, make sure the socket type patches.

i may have a bundle for sale soon, not sure yet,

a cpu, q6600, 4gb ocz ram, msi board,

means ud need case,psu, hdd,dvd,gpu,

not sure what those bits above are worth currently

ive had a good look inside my comptuer and can figure most things out, biggest problem is how do you know where all the little wires and connectors plug into the motherboard, i know the cd is labeled cd but most have no label at all, or can i just try and copy the current set up?

to upgrade my pc i would only need a new motherboard, ram, graphics card, the rest i could just keep as the cd and dvd writers are fine, have enough hard drive space, and the case is fine -

how would i know if my current power supply is enough for the new system? it current says on it, mercury ATX switching power supply, 400W, model kob ap4400xa -
(not sure where the soundcard is on my pc, unless its built into the motherboard)

I think pretty much all the connections on a modern motherboard are unique. i.e. if it fits than that's where it's supposed to go.

Soundcard will probably be built in, look where your speakers are connected, that's the soundcard lol. Not much point getting a seperate soundcard these days as the built in ones are usually quite good.

400w may be a bit low if you want a kickass graphics card but see how it goes. If you keep getting crashes you might need to upgrade it.
