Gav, that is very cool, i could do some damage with one of them ;)
I was at an exhibition once and they were machining a persons face looking up towards the cutter, from a solid block of some plastic and it was amazing. I like the water jet cutters, they are cool as well, cant believe abrasive water can cut such think materials, fast too. |

Can I be an engineer when I grow up? Although I imagine that the skill lies in being able to program the machine to cut the block into what you need? That must take a lot of maths... :D |

yeh it must take a lot of skill, and i think if your good you get paid a fair bit, my engineer has a 2008 Porsche 911 turbo and has a NICE house

my engineer is a hair ugly yorkshireman who cant drink, they are not all paid a fortune, nor the brightest sparks :)

It's still interesting when you work on them everyday. Well, the Matsuura is, the laser gets boring quickly. At work we do most of the programming on the machine, not much CAD/CAM.
The maths is the best part :) That's not half of it though. You've got to know what you can do with each tool, and what tools you need etc.. And you can't learn much of that in books. |
