I've been wanting a track bike for about a year now, however the whole van insurance thing has really but a downer on it and made me consider putting the track bike plans on hold for a year or two, where van insurance drops dramatically!
Now my eye has been caught by the multitude of 0% deals on new road bikes. In particular, there seems to be a good deal on a new R1. Oddly enough insurance on a litre sports isn't too bad for me. (It is the vans which are dangerous after all) Decisions, decisions, decisions. |

go with the 0% deal on an R1 or whatever you fancy getting and keep the SV as your track bike then next year get yourself a van when insurance will be a bit better for you and until then hire a van to kart the sv as when you need to

That's what I'm eding towards doing...SV would stay in both scenarios as the work horse.

If you've got a car, buy/rent a bike trailer. Then you don't need to buy/tax/insure a van too.
You miss out on a changing room and a big dry space to work on the bike but a trailer is a damn site easier to store. Place in four marks rents them for about £50 per weekend but you need your own tie down straps. Or just rent a van for track days. |
