What is it with supermarket fruit?
My nan used to know how to make fruit last weeks, but nowadays the stuff i get from S****b***s almost rots on the journey home.
I bought two punnets of nectarines 2 days ago - they were lovely firm and crisp. Today they soggy and ready for the bin. Bananas the same, sometimes they never ripen at all, sometimes they are brown in a couple of days. Supemarkets if you are listening - I dont care if you are 1p cheaper than your rival, sort your fruit and checkout queues out. |
Re: What is it with supermarket fruit?
Stick to farm shops, we have a brilliant one near us, all sorts of fruit and fresh :-)

Re: What is it with supermarket fruit?
I'm guessing it's in the transport or chemicals they use.
We got 2 bags of bananas still green, by the end of the week both were soggy brown and covered in flies :smt078 |
Re: What is it with supermarket fruit?
get down to a market, not a super market or a local fruit/veg shop.

Re: What is it with supermarket fruit?
Maybe growers are selected for price and appearance, not flavour and shelf-life.

Re: What is it with supermarket fruit?
Proper greengrocers or farm shop is the answer. Their produce hasn't sat in a Tesbury's warehouse for those extra few days.
More often than not they struggle to compete on price with the supermarkets but beat them hands down on quality. Alternatively, eat the fruit quicker but don't stray too far from the loo! |
Re: What is it with supermarket fruit?
sounds like sainsbos are better than tesco a few times now I've picked up a perfect looking shiny crisp apple only to bite into it to find the insides rotten. rank
had snails in with my peas too. |
