headlight bonding glue removal?

Hi all, currently playing with a euro headlight assembly on an `01 curvy and to do the job properly the projector light has to come out and the metal plate that causes the light emited to kick to the left (for uk roads)has to be modified, as it currently kicks to the right.

Ive checked with a few MOT guys locally and the light can either be a flat beam or kick to the left, no right kick or beam benders allowed.

ive tried a heat gun to soften the glue but its a sod of a job has anyone succesfully managed to seperate the headlight lense from the plastic back?

Sure i read somewhere that the heat from the oven works, I can heat them no problem but seperating them enough to pull them apart has been difficult so far.

Thanks, Lee

once - with a heated knife blade - at your own risk...

wish me luck, about to try the oven method, had to wait for my wife to go out as she was less than enthusiastic when I mentioned it :p

With the heatgun i was using a small wallpaper scraper, and that was getting warm with the heatgun, so sort of tried a hot knife idea.

Yeah put them in oven, look up ad53gd or whatever he's called thread about putting projectors in his TL1000S

Not sure what temp but it can soften glue enough to open them.

Re: headlight bonding glue removal?

well I used the oven technique and did soften the glue a tad, used a knife with this method, but its just done my fingers in instead trying to prise the unit apart so will try again tomorrow.

I did a little search and found the topic all about the tl lights, so have sent him a pm as he simply cut his lense off.

Im a little worried about cutting the rear cover as the strength will be lost and the headlight mounts from this and each light mounts inside from the rear cover.
