Calling Org Welders!
3 Attachment(s)
Can anyone close to me in Leeds York area help me out?
The front strut on my armchair has snapped off! Can it be re-attached or is it simply a design flaw with a weak point? This is the most comfortablist armchair in the world and I am loathe to tip it if it can be fixed. I will naturally compensate whoever can help me out with beer and of course I will bring the stricken parts to you. See attached pics for details. |
Re: Calling Org Welders!
Looks like and easy job, but i'm a bit too far away fro armchair welding ;-) anyone with a MIG should be able to do that in 10min.

Re: Calling Org Welders!
is it steel? If so I could probably do a right messy job of a weld on it for ya? (not welded properly for over a year but I'll dig out some bits of scrap to regain my steady hand.

Don't care what it looks like as its underneath and won't be seen anyways. I'll drop you a pm in a bit. Thanks |
Re: Calling Org Welders!
no worries dude - working in london at the mo, back up home tonight but then driving straight back down tomorrow morning and home again on thursday night (we couldn't get 2 different stagesets on the one van so it's 800 miles worth of m1 for us this week!).
Are you in a big rush for it? :) |

Re: Calling Org Welders!
Looking how thin that steel is, be careful you dont blow big holes in it, brazing may be better if its too thin, my mig welder is crap for thin stuff, other bigger welders i have used seem to do a better job for some reason.

Re: Calling Org Welders!
Looks like a bit of a compromised design. Simple and cheap and just about strong enough (but not quite).
It should MIG OK I'd say, it'll be relatively light gauge (1.5mm or 16swg or similar) so won't take stick welding too easily I suspect. I'd add extra strengthening/bracing/gussets personally. Industrial machines tend to have much better controls/wire feed etc than DIY types IME, generally better to use all round, but I've used Clarke ones and they can do fine. |
