Lego - Proper stuff from the 80's
 

Has anyone got any?
I was looking through some old toys in the loft the other day. I've got a big box of lego, no boxes, and no instructions. But I DO remember the sets they made.

After some carefull googling, i've found the sets I had, some were epic (and also showing the motorsport interest at a young age).

Now after finding my sets, im trying to find instructions. I want to go childish and rebuild them all.

I've looked on the lego site, and nothings come up. Im gonna do some more googling when I get home, but has anyone got any links to this kinda stuff? I'd love to rebuild it all properly.

My folks gave away a massive box of technics lego I had as a child, I remember the best thing was designing new vehicles from the box of bits...I doubt I could do as good a job these days as back then though.

Have fun....I'm jealous!

I have asked the wife for Lego for my Birthday, coz although I am going to 37, I prefer to think of my self as never getting past 12! Being twelve was great, I rode my bike, I played with my friends, I lived in another country and I snogged a girl for the first time! Her Mum was not best pleased!

I miss Technic Lego...

Old skool lego rocked. It required imagination. Plain bricks, with some extra bits. I used to make allsorts out of it all.

However, I am sadly looking forward to making these. I just hope I have all the parts needed still. You can see above the remains of the cars from the trakcs though that i've put the number of above. Can't wait to make the Shell racing grid :D Although the 2 car grid was the first one I had.

Technics was great also. I remember I had one truck, engine block, moving pistons, stearing racks etc. Actually taught me the basics of how an engine works.

How on earth did I end up in lame assed IT :(

I tried real engineering, but was so hopeless with the Maths, they put me in with the special kids! I did make a gear puller on a lathe though. :smt026

These days I am a support worker, thinking of going back into teaching, having over come my numeracy issues.

As a kid, I really wanted to be a designer for Lego, but the Folks said I should set my sights on a real career. So that worked out well then... :smt081

I ALWAYS wanted to get into motor-racing as a child (dad raced bikes, spent my youth at tracks).

That fell back in my teens as my dad gave up racing (money) and got into Jetskiing. Then I wanted to be a pro jetskier, I was good, very good. Again, money, dad wouldn't pay for me to go racing. I was a surf dude.

So I got into rugby, played Kent for 5 years, then realised I was too small a frame.

By which point I was about to leave school, done below average, but was only "ok" at one thing, IT... That ended up being my career.

I look back now, desperatly sad that I could still not be a motor racing driver. Very sad. Boat has been missed. Now i dread my career and going to work. And now too old and missed the boat for the Jetskiing too.

Still, lego, WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO something to look forward too tonight.

Was that a Hornby railways set i saw there in the corner of one of the pics?
I have a largish trianset that i'm looking to pass onto an new owner (provided they pass me some used bank notes to a healthy sum first of course).

Hmmm, quite suprised my big into biking, racing, marshalling dad didn't get me this set though...

Snap, did an electronics engineering degree and now I'm a software developer/project manager...could be worse! I just think of the money these days, contracting ain't bad, gets you out of the politics (almost)...

I bet most who loved lego when younger got into techy jobs of some sort :)

@JayneFlakes, if you get into programming only a limited amount of maths is required, lego building skills are essential though ;)
