Draining battery.
 

Hi folks im new on here and have had my sv 99 curvy over a month now. i bought a new battery when i got ot as the old one was nackered. it has worked perfectly for over two weeks nowbut now when i start it in the morning going to work it has been fine but cumming home from work i have to bump start the bike, ive charged it overnight a few times and the same thing, also if i go for short rides turn it off and try and start it again it wont fire up. something is draining the battery but i dont know what, the bike has an imobilizer /alarm on it but my brother owned the bike before me and he had no problems

It does sound like the reg / rec has gone, but you'll need to check that the bike is charging the battery first.

Have a search for a post by Sid Squid, it'll tell you what and how to check it, along with what the voltages should be.

hi guys did this the other night, 12 when ignition turned on and 13 -14 when starting up and under revs,

Here's a very useful Fault finding flow chart

A couple of very basic checks first. Check the voltage at the battery when it's running, lights on, rev to 3-4k (OK, you say this is done).
Next, measure any quiescent current drain, fit multimeter set to Amps between the earth cable and the battery negative terminal. Start with Amps and turn sensitivity up in steps once you know the current is small, should be no more than a couple of milli-amps with everything switched off.

It's still doing this folks had to bump start itagain. When riding the bike I can hear a clicking sound what could that be

The clutch switch is under the clutch lever.
You need to find out, is the battery flat when it needs bumping or does it not try to crank at all?

If the battery is flat you will hear/feel the engine attempt to move probably followed by a rapid clicking from the starter relay under the seat.


If you don't get this, it could well be the safety cut out circuits or the immobiliser preventing you from even trying to start it.

The engine is tying to turn over and then you get a rapid clicking sound.

Hi hhh1234 when you have a chance try removing the side panel below the seat and the right hand tailpiece (easiest to take the lot off really) a lot of the wiring with connectors runs through here, one by one disconnect and clean with electrical cleaner or WD40 each connector and reconnect. I had a new reg/rectifier on my '99 curvy a few years ago when it woudn't charge the battery properly with no great improvement having heard all the stories about old/new Suzuki electrics. After cleaning them all and checking the voltage it was fixed!
