Rear suspension sloshing noise

Probably a really stupid question but here goes. I got a oem 8k second hand rear shock to replace my 40k one the other day and noticed a liquid sloshing noise when i tipped it back and forth (kind of like the sound you would hear if you did the same with a can of soup!) So is it normal to hear a sound like that, before i put it on the bike and find its knackered.

Is that with the shock upright or on its side ?

Nope, that noise aint good.

I got the same when I took mine off to swap it for a ZX10 shock.

I thought it was water that got past whatever seal is on the thing. Mine was useless by the time I took it off.

its the oil in the shock, it will move about, just like in front forks, my k3 shock (stock) does that as well

So from most of the replies im guessing its normal to hear that sloshing noise then and its just oil (cheers Dan) moving about and nothing untoward.

yup just the oil, if it sounds thin like water, that could be a problem lol although there's no telling because it wouldn't surprise me if suzuki used water like oil in there suspenders
