struggling to get my curvy front wheel reinstalled.
 

I removed my `01 curvy front wheel, to repaint the standard forks and front wheel.

Put the discs back on, greased it all up, aligned the speedo drive correctly, (well, the rotor lines up with the rotor in the wheel) but just cant get the wheel to line up correctly, the speedo drive seal seems to be causing the wheel to not be able to be puches into place, it needs to go about another 5mm higher to line up?

Anything im missing, something simple? Is it right that the small stub on the inside of the left fork goes in the small slot on the speedo drive? Theres the block the cable goes into, with another small stub, have I got that right?

On the pointy the notch in the speedo drive that looks exactly right to line up with a stub on the fork... doesn't! If you put it like that it binds solid.

On the curvy, embarrassingly I can't remember! Try it both ways, if it is secure and lines up fine it will not spin round the axle or anything.

refitting is reversal of removal right?
I find the front wheel a P.I.T.A aswell, persistance normally pays off
(that wasnt much help tho was it!!)

Ive generally been really careful with this take apart and rebuild, taking pictures, making quick sketches and notes, even got loads of post it notes all over the bike :D, but on this, I forgot as was in the moment of parts removal.

My memory is pretty poor at the best of times too, which doesnt help ;)

not going to help as i haven't done it in ages so cant rember the exacts, but if you find the front hard to do god help you when you get to the rear lol

Done the rear wheel piece of p155, which is unusual for me to find something easy to do :D

Thanks beabert, looks like ive got to spin the speedo drive round a little, possibly where im going wrong.

IRRC the curvy speedo drive sits either side of a nubbi on the inside of the fork leg.

I defo remember it been one of my least favorable tasks, but never something that look longer than 10min of swearing to resolve.

I cant remember if the spindle fixs to the same fork leg or if it pushes in from that side, depending on which way that slids in then either use that or a bar/threaded bolt etc to line the first fork leg, the wheel and speedo drive then finally the fork leg where the speedo attaches. If you're using the spindle then once its all aligned just rotate, if you eed to be putting the spindle in that side then push it in, pushing out the screwdriver/bar or what ever you used then twist to tighten. Unless the spacers in the front wheel have somehow moved it should be as straightforward as that.
