Re: Experia x10 2.1 update
It is a shame that the OEM's are the ones that are putting the only real tarnish on Android... and that is that they dont keep up. Why cant they just use the stock ROM from Google for gods sake if they have no intention of keeping any where near upto date!?
2.1 will be a big leap but 2.2 is WAY better! N' 2.3 which will be announced soon will again no doubt add a lot to the OS. There is no excuse for this sort of behaviour from such a large company. Kinda funny that Sony Erricson are now setting their sights on becoming the "premium" Android provider... yea ok. |

Well as there are no hacked Sense 2.2 Hero Roms out there, I thought I would try a "vanilla Froyo" on my phone. You know what, I quite like "raw" Android, and yes it IS faster then 2.1 I doubt 2.3 will work on my Hero, but I'm due an upgrade in about 6 months, which should hopefully find me as a 3.0 Honeycomb user. Oh and 2.3 HAS been announced |
Re: Experia x10 2.1 update
I like HTC phones, but the X10 was the only semi decent phone I could afford. Sony Ericcson has completely failed, when it comes to upgrade ability. They have just announced that it WILL support multi-touch sometime next year, but it has bugs.
There is no information on whether they will have 2.2 on the X10, but from experience I would hazard a guess that it will not happen. By the time they get round to looking at it, they will have brought out a new phone. Ste. |

A couple of the support guys at work were given Sony Experia phones and I've got to say Sony has done a really poor job at modifying the UI, it is far better as stock IMO. To send an exchange based email for example you need to hit the menu button as no send option is on screen |
Re: Experia x10 2.1 update
Well let me hope that I get 2.3 with HTC (on desire) or I might have to get a stock 2.3... Since my phone is almost the same as the Nexus 1 I should be ok I guess.
I think its STUPID not to keep updating Android phones as long as they can actually run the latest OS. I look at it like this... 95% of smart phone/android users are on contracts. Which means they are usually stuck with a phone for 12-24 months, so, they arnt going to go out and get the latest phone unless its upgrade/change contract time. So, how best to keep their custom when it does get to upgrade time? Well I for one would be happy to stick with a company that keeps their phones upto date and doesn't drop them like hot coals as soon as another appears in their line up, im not likely to stick with a company that just fobs off issues and pretends they don't exist. Unfortunatly it is the latter sort of company that is hurting Androids image, its good and bad that google didnt make it open source in a different sense, having the OEM phone makers help write it in the first place instead of modifying googles efforts as it is now. We will see... |

But I knew that when I put it on it, so when I get Application Crashes I just shrug and try again (which usually works). I don't get on the phone to T-Mobile and complain that my phone keeps crashing, which is what would happen if the FroYo ended up on every-day Hero's as it is. Problem for Android is the speed at which new chipsets are being deployed, so there is no real point/gain to be had by updating the OS for a now obsolete hardware platform. Besides it drives the desire for a new phone after about 12-18 months :) |
