Help, Puff of white smoke

Thought id just check my SV ran as i havent used it for 3days and thought the battery might be a bit low, Hit starter button and large puff of white, sickly/sweet smelling smoke came from under tank,no bang or pop or anything though! undid tank bolts and lifted up and it smells like its coming from the airbox!
Bike wont start, but turns over and 'seems' to have compression (dont quote me on that) no odd noises from engine, cant see (limited light) any oil anywhere or anything abnormal!

Anyone got any ideas?

Check along the whole length of them and look for charring or melting as Barwel said.
Make sure there is no breaks in the insulation.
