help me go faster?

Hello there folks, i don’t normally venture into this bit of the forum as its full of scary folk that grunt, drink super unleaded, fart rubber and generally scare me with the speed at which they can ride a bike. Now heres the thing i need some help with....

Last year (this year) i went along to the raf track day at leeming and had a fantastic time (once the bike was sorted by someone turning something when i went for a wee) anyhow i took a mate there who had travelled up on his missus bandit 600. Hes very much a ride it till it brakes kind of guy then fix it the following week so it was no surprise when it swallowed 2l of oil once we got there! Now after we went round a bit i was only just quicker than him. To be frank hes a better rider than i am (riding 2 years longer than me) and is also doesn’t have as much in the way of self preservation as i do. i.e has bigger balls.

Sooo after having as much fun as me hes gone and got a Daytona 600 to ensure hes got a faster bike than i have. And despite it costing only 1400 quid (its not in fantastic condition to say the least) hes itching to get onto a track and blow me into the weeds.

Now here lies the problem. As much as i don’t want this to happen i know that his experience and faster bike are going to ensure i have to put up with ritual humiliation for the rest of the year. Is there any way i can improve my chances of keeping up with him? Between now and april? If so how? Im clutching at straws here folks so anything you can help me with will be appreciated. Im kind of hoping that his bike packs in on the out lap (entirely possible) but if it doesn’t i need a backup plan J (btw i don’t want to let his tires down as thats just not cricket J

I think you'll end up hurt trying to keep up lol

The only thing that really makes you quicker is practice... and following quicker riders helps too.

Deflating his tyres would be profoundly un-British...

Stripes down the side of your leathers :-D

And its practice you need, you improved loads with just a days practice at Leeming, but looking at this weather its hardly likely you're going to get any in. And it's not exactly a good idea to try and get faster on our roads, them walls tend to hurt at speed :-P Pull a sickie in April and postpone it for a couple of months ;-)
