US Government Suing BP
Although this is a messy and complicated affair, I do not agree with suing BP specifically,
BP drill for oil for profit, granted, but they produce oil for every single one of us who need it, we are all guilty via consumerism and the huge demand we place on BP et all to produce oil to meet our needs. It just feels to me that while yes BP are responsible for the leak, America want to further deny their lust for oil by sweeping the responsibility for the leak under the carpet and onto BP. Maybe they should put the duty on their fuel up a tad to pay for the damage, it might also make people over the pond value the recourse a little more than they currently do... |
Re: US Government Suing BP
to be fair its more to do with the cowboys that are running the rig. BP will never get official liability though. there only doing this to save face. If they turn around and say well stuff you to the gov everyones screwed.... the only reason they are doing the cleanup is for pr.

Re: US Government Suing BP
If America sue BP, then BP should pass the bill to the sub-contractor who screwed up in the first place - Halliburton, but as they are a major US government contractor I don't see that happening any time soon.

well BP is intending to sue Haliburton. That came out when the US said they would take BP to the court I'll go get the popcorn |
Re: US Government Suing BP
won't make any difference to bp-they as all major companies will pass on the cost to the consumer.

I don't blame BP pulling out of the US! Time to reek the revenge of $8 gal fuel :D |
Re: US Government Suing BP
BP have already stated that they will take unlimited liability in this case. They will pay for the clean up, if they were to try to pass costs to their contractor I could guarantee that they would make them go under as there is no way the insurance for Halliburto will wish to be subrogated against, or even have the cover at this level.
If BP wishes to continue to trade with them then they obviously wont be exploring this option. |
Re: US Government Suing BP
Typical yanks TBH, i doubt there would be as much fuss if a yank company caused the leak,
At the end of the day we all use the oil and you have to accept that when they pump up millions of gallons of the stuff per day because we all demand it, occasionally some will leak out. |
