Not really a hibernation, more of a just not riding it.
 

Can I have some advise please, ok I have not ridden since Oct, as stated in another thread I started, right, question is, once every two week's I start her up, she’s on rear paddock stand so I put her in gear and let her tick over for @30 minutes, normal engine temp, and wait till I hear the fan kick in, then a quick oil on the chain and then leave her till the next time.
I’m doing this because
1 to keep the battery charged up and
2 getting oil around the engine and water/anti freeze flowing around.
Am I doing any damage to the engine. Any advise welcome.
Oh and I do move the bike, so I do not rest on one spot.
good or bad ?.

If you have a garage with power you'd be better off with an optimate and leaving it hooked up to that.

You need to ride a fair way to put the charge back into the battery that you took out of it by starting it.

Not going to comment on the running it on the stand bit as I'm not technical enough to do so, but I was always told by people who I trust

"Only start it if you are going to ride it"

That's possibly the worst thing you can do to the poor thing whilst it's parked up.

Charge the battery every month/six weeks or so, unless you have the ability to leave it permanently connected to a suitable charger. If you're going to leave it unused for a long time get it on stands so the wheels are off the floor and let the tyres down.

so it does get some useage..
i'm thinking of riding it inside the garage forward and backwards so the brakes gets used and engine gets warm, and i will open the doors...

So the tyres aren't under any pressure when it isn't required. That and exposure to sunlight, (UV specifically), are the reasons perfectly good tyres get cracked when they're put back in to use after a lay up.
If it's not possible to get the wheels off the floor then letting the tyres down would be a mistake, as the carcass would be likely to distort.

As said before this is only if it's to be unused for a long period.

i posted a similar thread a while back, and got different answers. I was told that i should go and start her up to get charge through the battery etc. even if it is only 5/10 mins. i did think that that wouldn't be ebough time to get charge back into battery lost from starting the bike up! but decided that the people of the org would know much more than I.

i cant see why, but might this be different for me as i stated before mine is under cover outside?

I have been lucky though, i have had the oppertunity to take it out for a small blast 10 miles down the road and back to get a run out of it.
