Sledges - invention of the Devil!
Will someone PLEASE invent a sledge that has no lip or backrest of some kind. After being dragged out this afternoon by my 13 year old I discovered that getting "air" over the steepest but undulating downhill section in our park hurts like hell when you land again.
Time to use an entire bottle of Radox in the bath I think!! As I've managed to *cough* break the damn thing after a particularly hard landing (and subsequent wipe out) I need to buy another one aparently. Anyone found any pain-free models? |

If they're still available the tubular steel ones with wooden slats on the top used be favourite. Fast and sturdy but not famously cheap.

Plastic fertilizer bags, slippy as hell with the added advantage you can sit inside 'em and keep dry. One disadvantage though - if you hit a stone or tree stump prepare to sing soprano!

Big old heavy solid wooden home-made sledge with sheet stainless or aluminium runners, can't beat them. They go like hell, but do have a tendancy to slice fingers off if you get a hand trapped underneath them though!

Re: Sledges - invention of the Devil!
Our kids have plastic tray like things with a little grab handle in the front to hold on to. Cheep as you like but does the job just fine and no chance of any nasty injuries. At least no chance of any nasty injuries from the sledge itself. Can't comment about the landings after taking air time though. I guess that's the gamble you take. :) The older you get the less you bounce. ;-)

Re: Sledges - invention of the Devil!
Back when I was a kid, everyone had one of these:
http://img1.classistatic.com/cps/kj/...432ahi_20.jpeg I had a slightly different one with only two skis, the fronts of which pivoted to steer. They're great going downhill, heavy as hell to pull back up! I would recommend something similar to this, you pull on one of the handles to steer, both to brake. |
Re: Sledges - invention of the Devil!
That's insanely over complicating the process. We used to use a bin liner.
