recommend me a panel van
in need a of van along the lines of a vivaro, traffic, SWB low top transit, transporter ect ect. Regularly cover 200+ mile journeys economically and reliably. obviously vans are abused to buggery so lower miles the better but what sort of life is expected out of a well maintained one?
also does anyone know if any of the above have structural bulk heads or just for show? thank you please |
Re: recommend me a panel van
vw transporter,sprinter-------go to auto trader and get an idea of prices, you may find some private ones without VAT

We used to drive LWB Transits, no reliabilty issues with ours, not bad to drive either, although noisy cabs and tiring. There were 6 in our fleet and although one was a Friday made one and had its fair share of problems, the rest were fine. They are made in Turkey these days. I know there was a long wait for parts sometimes, why I don't know? We've got a VW transporter now, much more car like and pretty pokey too. Its got the V5 diesel, easy 80mph crusing  , but its rated as a car, careful as some are rated as a van and this affects hows its treated by mobile speed cameras. Both had proffessionally installed bulkheads, shelves etc. I prefer the VW as its a bit more economical and easier to drive, but then our transits were Hi tops Pretty sure VW is made in Turkey too. I don't pay for the servicing, so I don't know which is cheaper to run, although I'd guess the Ford was, but less reliable than the VW overall. More Tranny's about though |
Re: recommend me a panel van
VW Transporter or the merc sprinter Same vehicle underneath
Iveco's are like tanks if you just wanting a basic van |
Re: recommend me a panel van
I've got a mk5 transit, they're pretty robust and if serviced regularly are good for 300k+ miles, can be picked up fairly cheaply (compared to transporters etc).
They're noisy, slow and suffer a fair bit with the old tin worm though |
Re: recommend me a panel van
yeah thats why i want to stay clear of transits
really like the vivaro but the traffic, vivaro and that nissan one ar pretty much exactly the same van, are the motor's ect the same? |

Of all the people I know with vans, I know a lot, the only ones that don't have trouble are transits. Any French van will break down and every electrical item will fail. Even my mates merc vito has had engine management issues. Transits work end of . I've got the connect which I've had 4.5 years and apart from service items the only thing it's had is an exhaust back box and that was for the MOT a few weeks ago, they are great vans but a bit small for my usage tbh, mines done 40k . |

Vivaro's are strong horses. Just stay away from Vauxhall dealership. How the bloody hell can you have a van in 3 times under warranty with nothing wrong with the oil level indicator when the thing is flashing at you constantly and the oil level is spot on.
Combo's on the other hand are the biggest pile of dog turd on this god given planet. Struggle to get 6ft light fittings in them. Vivaro's in work are tidy and the Movano's seem okay too but depending on size. Western Power use Tranny's and their vans seem a good fleet too. |
Re: recommend me a panel van
