Re: MOT pass but with advisements
EBC disks and pads are a reasonable choice (currently have these on mine)
Tyres- Avon Storms are popular with SVs. Conti Road Attacks have also been recommended to me. These are sport-touring tyres (longer lasting, probably not quite as grippy as warm sports tyres). Others can advise re sports tyres. I've got Avon Storms on mine. Very nice tyres- quite confidence inspiring, even in the wet. |
Re: MOT pass but with advisements
I've got some Avon Storm 2's on mine and they're not as good as version 1's. Not quite as confidence inspiring - especially in the wet. But do last a long time.
Gonna try the Dunlop Road Smarts next or maybe the BT023's |
Re: MOT pass but with advisements
thanks for that would it be worth changing the front disc at the same time as the rear

If it was me than I would do it, but it all adds to the cost. If they weren't on the advisor, then there is no practical reason to change them. |
Re: MOT pass but with advisements
Yeah- depends on your budget. If you really don't need to do it right now and don't have the cash, save up!
That said, As with Dan- if you think it needs doing, go for it! I did all 3 discs last year (Dec for rear as it was dished and Jan due to advisory). And once you've got them, they should last you a while!!! |
Re: MOT pass but with advisements
Discs should last for a long time, my VFR is getting to needing new disks but it has 74k on it! The SV I replaced the rear cos it was bent[1] and the fronts at about 36k[2].
Druid [1] I took the spindle out without removing the caliper and the wheel fell and twisted sticking a slight bend in the disc. [2] Although that was for wear in the bobbins rather than disc thickness. |
Re: MOT pass but with advisements
At risk of getting flamed Id say------
If the brakes are ok to pass the mot then the advisories are just that,so have a critical look at what needs doing. The rear disc---is it just a bit worn or is it bent?If a bit worn it will probably be fine for a long while yet as long as it still delivers adequate braking force.A new set of pads might be all it needs. As for the fronts, discs are expensive so if it doesnt need them dont get them.A good clean up and new pads might be all that needs as well. Rear tyre----Get one.Nothing worse than nearly worn out tyres especially at this time of year. |
