Trail riding in Devon

Hi all and Merry Christmas,
I was wondering if anyone on here does any trail riding in the Devon/Plymouth area? (not on an SV obviously, before i get the usual comedians).

Used to go out lopwell dam every other weekend. Was some good places out there not sure if your allowed there now, but I went with the theory of not going stupid when people where around and being polite never once got any grief. Also there was a farmers field over cardinham I think you paid £5 or £10 and he would let you on his land, could be a proper trail there never went myself but my brother went a few times.

When I was a mountain biker down there, I used to see motocrossers riding out at Hemerdon, near the old clay pits. I don't know the legality of it though. Also while riding down to the Burrator from Nuns cross farm, I encountered a trail rider blasting along with way more speed, suspension and style then I ever managed even on my best mountain bike. I think that it is National Park land, so if you do ride out there, be careful because they get a bit upset even at the mountain bikers (although they do allow live firing and strip mining in a National Park, so no hypocrisy there!).

Your best bet is to have a good look at Ordnance Survey Explorer Map OL28, I have it in a posh laminated version, this is the Dartmoor map and will list green lanes and other tracks. Sadly it does not include the area just east of Plymouth and Plympton.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Seriously tho chap i am still trying to decide on which trailer to buy, but when i have one i'll be more than happy to travel down to explore some lanes with ya. Thats if you are willing to wait for a total novice with all the gear and no idea? ;)
Your welcome this end of devon too if you can get ya bike ere and i'll show you a few of my local lanes and supply the coffee/tea and bacon butties too, am always up for a dirty ride. :D

cheers

PS, theres a few useful tips and links in the madlaners thread that will help you find a few lanes too...have a read!

Thanks for the replies, I've got a Dr350 and I've just started doing some green laning, I don't really want to join any clubs, I'm not a big group rider. I've managed to get a sat nav off a friend who used to do some green laning and it's got all the UCR and byways in Devon on it, I was just wonder if anyone in the Plymouth area fancied giving it a go. Stay safe and Merry Christmas.

My best friend down there is a mad keen off roader in his 4X4. I can ask him for his number for you if you are interested? Drop me a line to let me know. :D
