East Fortune lap gears

Hello minipeeps, how ya all doing? Hope the season prep is going well - not even started on mine yet........... anyways I was thinking in the shower this morning (not sure how I ended up thinking this but hey-ho)

Around East Fortune are the SV's and me pulling the same gear at the same place? On a flying lap (well as flying as slow-bus here gets) I'm going this;

Short shift in the middle of Hanna's and third over the line
4th through pates
up to 6th on the straight
3rd into the Railway
short shift on the exit and 4th in Snakes
up to 6th
down to 5th on Essess One (just started doing this in 2010 more corner speed and smoother)
Hold 5th through Esses Two
Down 3, 2nd into the hairpin
Up to 4th
Down to Second into Hannahs

Same or different? :)

Hey Alex! Happy New Year!

Well, I have no idea what gear I'm in at any point around the track apart from when i'm sitting on the start line but I seem to be changing and short shifting the same so I would presume I'm doing the same.

However, this year I'm planning on running a 44 rear sprocket (instead of 45) as I'm hitting the rev limiter just before getting to Pates and having to change up then straight back down. My plan is to just hold the one gear to get a smoother run through Pates (my nemesis!) and onto the straight. There's just too much going on there at the moment and I want to be able to just conentrate on the line and not worry about anything else. Its a totally new bike so I might not have to worry about any of that anyway and it might all be completely different but that's the plan.
I've figured out (took me long enough) that Pates is the most important corner at East Fortune and the number of times I got it wrong was ridiculous. I think I only did it well three times in the whole season and the number if times I nearly wiped that cone out was well into double figures!

See you for the practice day!
C

Hi Alex,
Happy New Year mate!!
I know you think that when i'm riding the bike all I do is laugh!!
But i've managed to keep my composure for a short time and gone through the lap at EF!!
I'm doing exactly the same gear wise as you are!!
Definately doing the down to fifth through the esses is much better-I was getting both knees down towards the end of the season going through there and it feels fab!!
Carl is dead right about Pates being a critical corner to get good drive and probably making good time up to Railway!!
Bullseye is on a crash diet for the closed season-so expect a well honed racer turning up for the EF practise day!!!

See Ya

New Years good so far, hope you all have a great one and 1:06 laps ,

Yers have got a point about Pates. For me the two places you make or lose a lot of time on are Pates and Essess 1; both are big balls corners where corner speed is king and most of us mere mortals underestimate how fast you can get round them.

Mind you, crashing at both of them is not advisable, so underestimate away!

I started to run out of ground clearance at Pates at the end of 2010, got to the point I was decking my knee, toe and fairing at the apex and was starting to unsettle the bike. Cant lean any further so need to change the line to get the speed up. Thing is, I ride with my tootsies seriously tucked in as far as they can go, for me to be decking toe sliders is a long way over.

Not sure I'm looking good for the practice day or racing at the moment. :(
In the interest of not loosing 1/2 to 3/4 of everything I dont own I've promised a family holiday for 2011. Apparently the last time was 2001 when I took them to Canada so it's err, overdue.

Seen how much holidays cost? It's ferkin frighting, looking about 4 gee's :smt103 just to go away for two weeks getting ripped of in the sunshine.

It's bollox when real life catches up with ya. :-({|=

Anyway's, going to prep the bike and hope for the best.

No trackdays at EF - just the practice day. As it's the day after the training day you can do all in 1 weekend.
