Overheating, what damage is done?

After changing the coolant, I was warming the engine up to top it up and got distracted, I thought I would only be away a minute but it turned out to be longer.
When I returned, the temp was flashing 120.
The air had filtered though to the rad so the rad was empty and the fan had not come on.
The engine was still running smooth and after it had cooled down and topped up, it started OK.
Question is, although there is no sign of damage yet, have I done any unseen damage?

Re: Overheating, what damage is done?

on provision your temp sensor and fan are working correctly, then everything should be fine, as the temperature hadn't got that high (bear in mind you can easily get it over 100 just in traffic).

Cheers Mark.
