Speedo Overread by about 10%

My wife has just bought a 2005 SV650S to complement my CBR1100xx.

Yesterday while cruising (with intercoms) we noticed about a 10% higher speed on her bike to mine. I know that my CBR already reads a fraction high so that means her speedo is well overreading. Any ideas on where to start looking for this fault would be appreciated.

Regards
David

I'm no expert but I would check the tyres are the right size, I think that can chuck it out, 120/60/17 - 160/60/17 is what they should be. Also I think having the wrong sprockets could cause it, count the teeth on them.

much appreciated. Front tyre is a 60/120/17. Will look at the timing sprocket this evening but 10% is a funny number?

Sprockets don't matter - speedo driven from front wheel.

10% is a strange number, the usual problems are:

Reading double 'cos it's got the wrong speedo drive in it.
Reading erratically - for a number of reasons.
Not doing anything as something is broken/disconnected.

If you find out what, if anything, is amiss, please tell us what you find, this is an unusual one.

Mine started reading much more accurately when i put a new front tyre on with a 70 profile rather than 60. So could be worn tyres or a slightly lower than standard profile.

Mine was 11.5% out on my zx6 due to general over read and small front sprocket so had to get a speedo healer, works great.

Check http://www.healtech-electronics.com/ here to see the % it should be over by.
