sv k6 race shock
Had a change of plan with buying an ohlins shock for the sv, and now back on the look out for a replacment. On limited budjet so a new ohlins/ penske is out the question at £700+.
Got my eye on a Nitron full race shock with high and low speed damping at £570. Has anyone had any expereance with this shock. |
Re: sv k6 race shock
I have not tried nitron but they seem to get good reviews compared to standard. Not known anyone do back to back with ohlins or penske.
Try contact Zoran at TWF, I guess you will be able to get penske 8983 for less than £570. |
Re: sv k6 race shock
i have had the same confusion lately and granted mine is not for racing. my conclusion was Nitron as they are assembled here in the UK and they seem to know what they are on about. i have never heard a realy bad thing said about them. a full service including change of spring/shim stack/damper comes in at £100ish a basic service £60ish.
dont quote me on this but i seem to recall that the guru/founder at Nitron was one of the main Guru's at Ohlins. |

I've heard that one aswel, the nitrons do look good value compared to the Ohlins etc.. |
Re: sv k6 race shock
nitron are making me up a shock for my hight which according to the man on the phone involves cutting the spring 10mm and damper rod which will also also play with the geometry of the linkages so he needs to set the shim stack up different and do some other voodoo stuff i also told him i ride mainly B roads and dont race or do track days, he said ok i'll set it up for that i also found out that 1mm on the shocky is just shy of 2mm hight difference so the shocky will be 10mm shorter plus 7mm up or down with adjuster which when full wound down will give me 34mm :-). all this at no extra charge. ooohhh and they also do black springs.

Re: sv k6 race shock
for the same price as the std shock?
If so that is good value |
Re: sv k6 race shock
yup £366 to my door. ok so its the basic shock but i really dont want to be pizzing around with settings the basic shock has comp/reb adjuster and does both at once which is good enough for me. but from what i have read they are pretty spot on out the box. now if they could only voodoo my gixxer front end to match the shocky.

Re: sv k6 race shock
Surely getting decent range of adjustment is what you are paying for?

Re: sv k6 race shock
I have never heard of cutting springs down to change the pre-load value. You just use the correct spring for the job !
Sounds like short cuts to save money.... |
Re: sv k6 race shock
Yeah that does seem very odd. Just don't wind the adjuster down quite as far.
By the way cutting it will also make it stiffer. But anyway sounds like BS, they would just buy shorter one, as you'd have to heat the top coil to bend it to flat again which would mean powder coating it again... cost a fortune and be a right pain in the tits. |
