Siezed caliper slider.
 

Hi folks one of the caliper slides on the front seems to have seized solid any ideas,how to release it without damaging the caliper or the rubber boot covering it?

do you mean jammed as in it's suddenly happened or seized as in it's been dragging a while and now is solid ?

Have you removed the caliper from the bike ?

If the caliper hasn't been serviced is a good long time it's more likely the pots (piston(s)) are holding it in place rather than the slides, the slides are basically two steel dowels within rubber boots, it is possible for these to rust if not greased, but even then the rubber boot should prevent them rusting to anything else.


If unbolting the caliper from the fork leg and rocking on the disk doesn't ease it off, then you'll have to open the bleed nipple to remove some of the fluid pressure behind it.

If you have the caliper off already, and the actual bracket with the two slides on is stuck to the caliper, then it probably means the rubber boots are already knackered, to get the caliper body away from the bracket, cut a slight slope on a bit of 2 x 1 wood and hammer it between the caliper and bracket, being softer than either it'll not damage them.

I've got the caliper off the bike but can't separate the slider it seems to be stuck solid. Would probably try brute force but don't want to cause any damage.

Hammer time.

Chances are there is corrosion around the rubber slider which is nipping the rubber making it tight.

+1 easiest way to remove them

sometime you can get them loose with a length 2x1 and lever it off
