New brake pads and lines from Jonny @ BikeBitsNI

I traded in the SV and bought a K5 GXSR 600 recently (the anniversary edition) and the brakes were somewhat lacking. It had only done 4900 miles since new so I guess the standard pads had not be changed and of course the lines were standard. Judging by the colour of the brake fluid in the master cylinders I suspect the fluid had never been changed either!

Having searched on the GixerJunkies forum I came across BikeBitsNI so I got in touch with Jonny and ordered new Hel brake lines and 'SBS Street Extreme' pads. Thumbs up for service and technical expertise and Junkies get a very good price. (http://www.bikebitsni.com)

Christ! The dam thing nearly throws me over the handlebars now! Real bite as you apply pressure and then rapid (and I mean rapid) deceleration. I haven't had a chance to go for a long ride as yet but I am sure that these now brakes will be a revelation in comparison with the tired standard system.

Jonny and BikeBitsNI comes highly recommended! :smt023

This is my new bike:

You found the brakes lacking on that !

Nice, but you should ahve got the 750 ;) I'm still on the standard setup and never had a problem with lack of braking power. Wander if the OE pads had got contaminated by something.

Enjoy !

Looks nice.

They don't look like standard discs though. Surprised that they have been changed in only 4900 miles.

Ah, didn't realise they had diff discs on the anniversary.

I was tempted with braided this year but had a rethink and there is nothing wrong with the braking power on mine.

Yeah well like I said the fluid was 5 years old and the hoses had never been changed. I guess (like a lot of bikes) someone bought it as a toy and it spent most of its life sat in a garage! 4900 miles in 5 years - soon as the weather improves I plan on doing that this year!
