HOW MUCH?! - I'll Give it a go myself thanks

Nope you eager bike beavers Im not reffering to anything 2 wheeled in this post. Some of you know I've been given an 02 plate megane which is in need of a timing belt (not snapped, just going).

Anyway gave renault a call to ask what the going rate is for the belt, pullys and tensioners replacing would be...
"£360, about"
not detered I pursued it further asking how much a full service with replacement plugs, filters, and oil etc would come to
"Couple of quid either side of £200"
and if I were to have the discs and pads replaced all around?
"Your looking for a further £250, you wanting this done in one day sir?"
No mate, Im looking to do it myself, I just wanted to know how much I'd be saving, cheers.
{respect to the guy, he chuckled and said "fair play"}

2hrs online shopping about for bits etc, I've got all the bits on order the parts I've needed have come to a total of £200 not including the oil which I've yet to buy. Then £140 on some tools which I currently dont have, namley some specific renault engine tools, axle stands and a trolly jack.

So for less than what it would have cost me for the timing belt replaced I've gotten myself:
Plugs,
Ignition Leads,
Air Filter,
Oil Filter,
Head Gasket,
Timing Belt,
Tensioners,
Aux Drive Belts,
Water Pump,
Brake Discs,
Brake Pads,

Plus a shed loads of tools, which should be handy in the future (at least thats what Im telling the wife).

One other thing this little adventure will cost me is my weekend and possibly the car if I balls it up :) ROCK ON!

Ha good luck with that ****, the timing belt on modern renaults/meganes are a complete pain the ass!

Its a 1.4 think its the most basic basic one but its only got 60thousand on the clock.

TLW, fair one, it is what it is tho. A £300 car - cant be bad as long as I dont kill it.

Ah I guess it's the old shape megane if it's £300? It's the modern ones that are rediculous, space being the biggest issue, you have to remove most of the front of the car, as it's a 1.4 you won't have a space issue lol

the haynes says I need to remove the front wheel, arch trim and 1 engine mounting.
i've paid £0 for the car, its literally been handed over the £300 is what the parts & tools to fix (and beyond) it have cost.
