Curvey fuel tap question
Could a leaking fuel tap cause fueling problems for the engine? Mines leaking and I've got a repair kit for it.
Just wondering if it could cause problems aside from fuel loss and the smell? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

What kind of problems are you having?
You're not on fire or anything are you? |
Re: Curvey fuel tap question
Yeah if the diaphragm splits it can drop fuel into the inlet on rear pot and fill the inlet tract, cylinder and engine cases with fuel.
If it fills the inlet tract it can burp it back out the pipe or airbox when you try start it and cause a fire, if it fills the cylinder it can bend a rod from hydrolock, if it fills the crankcases it can knacker the engine due to oil not being a good lubricant. Worst of all, fuel is expensive and you don't want it p*ssing into the engine except to create motion! Plug the vacuum line up while it's not fixed or better yet drain the tank. |
Re: Curvey fuel tap question
Take bottom cover from fuel tap of and clean little pin hole and it will close again. It is not black hole in middle about 2mm in size, it is smaller one you can barely see it. It is vent hole and diaphragm will not close if vent hole is clogged.

It's like a couple of bits of O-ring chord sealing that, you could probably make one if you haven't got one in kit
If it is that then it's unlikely to cause any of the scenarios of significant unpleasantness described above, just a normal leak. |
