New battery - charge it or not?
Just bought a new battery from MDS - arrived next day, spot on service.
One query, as I cant see any instructions with the battery. When I have added the electrolyte to the cells, do I still need to charge it up, or does the new acid do all that? Sorry, but I told you it was a daft question.... |
Re: New Battery, daft question
I would TBH
Have done without and it was fine. |
Re: New Battery, daft question
They usually come (dry charged). Just put the acid in, seal it up and go for a nice ride for about 20 - 30 mins.

Re: New Battery, daft question
Put the acid in, WAIT until it stops fizzing and goes cool (1 hour), then seal and charge or ride.

Re: New battery - charge it or not?
Give it a full charge after filling to get the best out of it.

+1 to the Squidman.
You might be surprised how much more charge it'll take on an optimiser or similar. I think I read somewhere that without charging it'll only ever be about 70% efficient. That may have been a different battery or that may have been made up. It's definately worth charging it though. |
Re: New battery - charge it or not?
thanks all.
I will charge it up. |
Re: New battery - charge it or not?
2 Q's first , if i filled it yesterday is it still worth charging today
2nd, can i use a car charger as i dont have an optimate |
Re: New battery - charge it or not?
depends on the charger chap, if its got a trickle charge on the car charger (less than 4amp) then use it. if it doesnt dont bother and just bang it on the bike.
