Curvy or Pointy for restriction?
 

Hi guys :eek:
Im looking into getting a bike to restrict, and looking around and after a suggestion from my dad (has a sv1000sz) Ive come across the sv650! :D
Any opinions on what version would be better to restrict, and what kit is best to use?

there are 3 methods
curvy (carb washers)
curvy (trottle tube restictor)
pionty (ecu)
cheapest is the curvy carb washer (get specs off here total cost 50p)

Thanks, are there any other companies like F.I (?) that sell the kits?

fi kits imho are way overpriced
if you get a curvy do the washers yourself, total cost 50p
if you get a pointy but a 33bhp ecu for here or ebay for 30-50 quid (plus you can resell of roughly the same when your restrictions up)

Ahh, I see...
Is there any difference to what one responds better to description? i.e. is injection better than carbed?

it all depends what you have money wise to spend, there are a few pointys being sold with the 33bhp ECU already fitted, you should get the full power ECU also so make sure they dont pull a fast one on you haha.

I worked on a FI restricted SV a while back and it was horrid, the throttle response was rubbish!

My Pointy is restricted via the ECU, ok it did cost a little bit more than the 50p for a washer, but it was an E-Bay special and cost not much. However, I have full throttle opening and can always drop it a gear to get the engine going. With road use though, I have never hit the redline and she runs out of steam at about 8K and she is still lovely to ride.

As for FI restrictions and their crappy certificates. If I had balls, they could suck them!

I have one year to go and then I get full power, so the restricted ECU will get firmly dumped in the knicker drawer with the old top yoke, clip ons and throttle cables! Do I have to send my photo card away to have the 25KW restriction removed or does it not matter?

i dont think it matters, as it has the date on it, but if you do send it back for a standard A rating on the licence, i think you have to pay about £25, not fully sure tho. my restriction is up now and the difference is only at the top end, bottom end feels exactly the same but it gets lary when you really open it up haha

If you ever plan on doing trackdays get a Pointy, whipping in a full power ECU is a lot easier than taking out carb washers.

Doesn't matter Jayne - mines still has the restriction thing on it!
