I don't have a clue what The Ferret is but the Financial Ombudsman Service can help settle disputes with insurance companies and brokers - http://www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk/

They will only look at it once you have exhausted the insurers complaints procedure, so do that first. If you can give an idea of the problem I might be able to help further.

If this is to do with your own insurance you have to write to them and state your issues and if you get no joy or feel that the response is wrong then as Tam put, use the ombudsman.

Exactly right. Although I would add that you don't strictly need to go through the insurance company first as it says on their website if the insurers position has been made very clear i.e. we will NOT cover this.

I work for a well known insurer and we get FOS complaints through, often without them going through us first when our position has been made very clear to the customer.

Re: Insurance Complaints

Complaint Level 1 - Speaking / Writing to initial person, 48hours
Complaint Level 2 - Specifically trained complaints handler, 1 week
Business Decision Letter - Company stating in writing their position, this give you 8 weeks to decide to pursue further
Customer Relations - No joy there then you can go to ombudsman

Then Ombudsman who will take 12 - 18 months to look fully into a case and make a decision

Thats the process for my place and should be pretty similar to any other insurer

'The Ferret' is a Watchdog type program on Welsh TV. It's pretty dire, they even took up the case of a woman who bought too much stuff online from Argos and spent all her money, and was upset when they wouldn't take it back months later. 'The Ferret' got Argos to pay her back and go get it from her house!
