Curvy/Pointy parts interchange?

hi.i just bought myself an 02 sv650 and its all standard.when im looking for parts 2 tart her up a bit like bar ends,every add says for 03 upwards.what is the difference and can i still use any model parts for my bike?cheers.bodie.
