Curvy headlamp, Euro spec?
 

I have tried searching the forum but i cnt find the answer i need, my curvy seems to have a different headlamp to others i have seen in pics on here. It has a projector headlamp as the dipped light and a std headlamp as the full beam.

Is this a std UK spec headlamp, as you sit on the bike the left hand light is on (which is the projector one, also which side of the beam should kick up as you sat on the bike?

That sounds like a Euro spec light. On UK bikes both headlights operate on dip.

Your beam should either be flat, or kick up to the left. Yours will likely kick up to the right (into oncoming traffic). If so, it's not legal and should be an MOT fail, although I had one for years and didn't have a problem.

Search for threads by Leebex. He bought my Euro light from me and, with some jiggery pokery, has just got it through an MOT legitimately.

So if i change the headlamp for a UK spec one how do i get both to operate at once, wiring i assume?

Ive ridden mine with euro lights for three years or more and had no problems with MOTS. Get the occasional flash from drivers at night, but as I hardly go out in the dark, not a problem for me. I thouht about swapping for UK ones, but cant be bothered with the agro or expense.

Well the wiring looks like it been mullered to accot for the Euro light, i can get a loom for £13 and a headlight seems to range from £20-£130. Wanna put it back i think bikes look odd when only one side of the lamp light up would rather have both, makes me more visible

Yep, a bit of wiring is needed to fit the UK lights. The headlight connectors on the front sub-loom are obviously different. IIRC there's only two wires to each of the lights - no high beam on the projector and no dipped on the bulb. I think the wiring for the projector was much thinner gauge than for the normal bulb so I assume you'll want to swap all that out rather than re-using it.

It's not the worst wiring job but, if you don't fancy it, get a hold of a UK spec front sub-loom (just the bit of loom that you see lying across the top of your headlights when you take the nose cone off). All the other connectors are identical so it's plug-and-play.

Or do what I did for a long time and don't worry about it. :D I only changed it because I happened to have a UK unit I wasn't using when I bought my project bike.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't read your last post there - I see you've already worked out what you're doing with the loom.

Will just swap the loom, hate vehicle electrics. The bike is a UK bike just with a EURO headlight. Bizarre.

The uk wiring needs 3 wires to each headlight, yellow for main beam, black and white/black possibly for the dipped and negative feeds. a 3 pin socket goes to each h4 lamp in the headlight.

Changing the loom would save mucho hassle too, especially if your loom has been messed with, i simply plugthe right hand side in as normal (lamp has an adaptor to use only 2 pins from the 3 pin plug), and the left projector side I bought some new crimps and plugged the loom from projector into the standard 3 pin H4 lamp socket.

Headlight doesnt take too long to change, i had to remove the nose cone and both side fairings, then its 4 or 5 nuts, 10mm spanner.

Might have a look see if I can get away with just changing the light itself and do the wiring myself it isn't right anyway so i got noting to lose.

Do you think it would be possible just to extend the wires from one side to the other so the wires go into the same places on the plugs on both sides?

I`ll have a look at my loom and the wiring diagrams, I had to take my fairing off just before the mot last week due to a corroded crimp in the connector plug that forms the small loom to the headlights.

You`ll need the 3 pin H4 bulb connector to allow you to plug your loom onto both UK headlights, so if these have been cut off it may well be easier just to buy that small loom that hides behind the fairing and goes to both headlights.

You could always get the both plugs from a car scrap yard, (bear in mind its older cars that generally run H4 bulbs with their twin filaments) and solder and heat shrink onto your loom.

I can dig out the wiring diagrams and email them if you need.
