Sv650 K2 Curvy - Reg/Rec gone bang?
Went to start the bike this morning and after running for about two seconds it cut out.
There was then nothing on the starter at all and the meta alarm was not responding. Horn was working as were lights and then after leaving it standing for about thirty seconds there was an audible hiss and then a ton of white smoke from under the rear seat. I'm guessing reg/rec is just completely fried but am at a loss to explain how or why it happened, Bike was running fine last night. I'm looking for idea's on what to do next and wether I can expect a knacked battery too. Cheers! |
Re: Sv650 K2 Curvy - Reg/Rec gone bang?
Curvies tend to blow them.
Best buy a new one, or hunt on Ebay for a GSXR, or Honda CBR one. You may have to be handy with a soldering iron, but it can be sorted fairly cheap. :) Hope this helps. The photo isn't too good, but this is a reg/rec off a pointy fitted to a curvy https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net..._8063361_n.jpg |
Re: Sv650 K2 Curvy - Reg/Rec gone bang?
If you get a GSXR part (like me £7 on ebay :) )
The 3 wire connector will fit straight as is onto the sv wires, the other one however will need cutting and attaching accordingly, Here is a pic that should help out a little: http://forums.sv650.org/picture.php?...pictureid=5398 (not my own pic, "borrowed" from: svrider.com) it may or may not fit straight to both mount holes on your bike, depends on what model the rec is from. but it can fit at least 1 hole. Hope it helps, collis |
Re: Sv650 K2 Curvy - Reg/Rec gone bang?
Id stick the battery on charge and get a multimeter on there, find out where the fault is before you start replacing bits willy nilly, even if the r/r is the likely candidtae. The haynes manual has instructions for testing charging system. do you have one? (a haynes manual)

Cheers for the advice guys, Going to have a look at getting a GSXR Reg/Rec and doing some wiring methinks. Might have to wait till after the weekend though, At least my race bikes don't try and blow themselves up!
