Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=165545
I recently posted the above thread, unfortunately no replies :( Someone must have fitted one of these and knows what i am on about. I was going to get the bike back together this weekend but it looks like that idea is off as i am going to have to take the engine to the 'official' suzuki garage based on feedback ive had from them :( it 'seems' that the rotor isn't pushed right back onto the driven gear. It's deffo a case of not wanting to tighten the rotor bolt anymore in case it snaps!. Ive not missed any washers or spacers either side of the crankshaft. I know it takes a fair bit of welly to remove it using the special bolt. Should it really take that much in reverse? Thanks in advance for anyone who can reply to this :) |
Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
Are you 100% sure the rotor has aligned correctly with the key? If not, the key would stop the rotor going all the way on. Also, if it isn't on the key correctly, I think you will be able to see it isnt running true when you rotate the crank and it would be much easier than normal to remove. It's a long time since I removed my rotor (to fit an ignition advance offset key), and I didn't take much notice of the gear, so I can't comment on whether or not there is any play as standard. Hope you can solve this - it would be a shame to end up at a bike shop to finish this off, especially after all the hard work you have put in!

Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
There is no spacer
It is a c*** to line key up with keyway Also make sure gear teeth line up |
Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
I get the lining up thing totally yorkie, you've got to battle the key lining up with the slot (it must have to be 0.0001mm perfect!) inside the rotor (which is a nightmare to see without breaking your neck) against the pin bearings on the back of it pushing it away from alignment when you push it onto the starter gear.
I think it getting obvious now it deffo isnt fitted right and if thats the case fingers crossed the woodruff key aint damaged or the slot it goes into! |
Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
Pin bearings? You mean sprags in clutch? Put sprag clutch together and fit as a unit, it is easy to get the key started in slot then

Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
You mean sprags in the rotor/alternator? - the clutch is the other side.
|
Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
The sprag clutch is there, it is one-way clutch for starter motor. I know where the actual clutch is ;)

Rotor will slide over key before it gets to clutch gear, than you spin gear while pushing rotor in same time. Just make sure key is fully inside slot so you are not pushing against it with rotor. |
Re: Has anyone fitted the sv rotor/alternator?
yeah i was thinking that too, anyways i took it to the local garage and its sorted and yes the k3 starter gear does have a bit of 'play' in it. It's been officially confirmed by a suzuki mechanic who races sv's
