Motorbike trip to Himalayas in August
I've found myself in a position to take a month off of work in August (nice.) So I'm looking into a guided bike tour in the Indian Himalayas as part of a trip to India. I've found a guy from the UK who does a proper job of it - not a glossy hotel package - and very good rates. He has Enfields. If the numbers are higher the price comes down.
If you're interested in touring in the Himalayas by Royal Enfield in August - for anything from 1 to 3 weeks get in touch and I'll give you more info. |

Re: Motorbike trip to Himalayas in August
I started looking at something similar a year or so ago. My plan was to arrive in India by plane, buy a classic Enfield and overland it back while taking in as many of the sights of the land as I could. But alas events conspired against me...
Purely out of interest, what is the sort of price range here and what would it include/ exclude? |

Re: Motorbike trip to Himalayas in August
Well, as this trip is coming together quite late in the day (I didn't expect to be able to have a month off), I've decided I want to travel with a guide for the high parts of the Himalayas.
Whilst me and few friends nearly ran out of petrol in the Pyranees once and had a laugh coasting down the mountains engine off to save petrol......... I want to be with someone who knows the territory so as not to do this up the Himalayas. I'd like to do high mountain riding without a guide one day. The High Atlas mountains in Morocco appeal. Found a guy who wants £95 a day for private tour guide - this covers 500cc Enfield. It's a lot of money, but is the going rate for pre-booked tours. I could leave it to chance and find a guide out there, but as a virgin to India I'm aware I'm probably going to be a bit gullible and may get ripped off or end up with something I don't want. This price would come down with more people. I'm looking at taking a trip in the high part of Himalayas where there is lots of Buddhist relics and intact ancient temples and the 2 highest motorable passes in Himalayas. I'm going to have a tour tailor made for between 7-14 days. I will hire a 125 or 250cc bike myself to pootle around lower himalayas by myself most likely after this, or may take a train to Bodhgaya. So, any people fancy a bit of this get in touch. I'm in London if you wanna chew idea through over a pint. Yet to confirm starting point but will probably be from Leh - one of the most northerly points in India. Otherwise from Manali. Otherwise, I'll post some pics when back :) Excited now! |
