I've a Question ... What happens when ...

I come across a Ford? Like obviously speeding through it'd be ridiculous but to what Depth do you reckon a bike could take and for how long? I only ask as I love going though the big Ford in Sidmouth in my car in the summer its like half the reason I go there and ofcourse to see the grandparents. Also theres a few Fords on the country lanes around me and there is also an area where floods happen.

Obviously I try to avoid these at all costs but does anyone have an input on this. Anyone humourously been washed away down stream or had soaked boots from stopping in Water.

Hitting a ford fast on a bike can result in bruised nuts,[male variety] or need for flying lessons;)

just make sure your front plug is well sealed :-) and enjoy.

Yeah with the front plug sealed up I've had it well over the footpegs. Just slip the clutch in 1st and creep through.

So long as the plugs stay dry, which a bit of silicon grease makes sure of, you should be able to go until the air filter gets submerged (which would be bad, but it's pretty high up)

I read the first line as something completely different!

I've never crossed a ford on the bike.

On the advanced bike course before mine, a student and the instructor both binned it in a ford near chatsworth!

Pete ;)

I think I took the SV up to the footpegs for about 250 yards when we had the proper floods down here - was slow going though, as the water was making the bike go nearly as far sideways as forwards.

The serious answer is up to the air intake, on an off road bike this is usually under the seat via a snorkel, on a road bike it's wherever your airbox is.

On either bike though you may have carb breathers via rubber tubes which exit below the engine, and if these can't breath due to being submersed in water you can have running problems.
