Speed cameras in France
Anyone nipping over the water be aware that they have decided to get strict and are removing speed camera signage, location systems (POI's on satnav etc) will no longer be allowed to be sold, and they've even withdrawn the official map of speed camera locations Thread on Deauville forum

Re: Speed cameras in France
From some of the discussions it sounds like the Gendarmerie might well be doing a lot more mobile radar traps on the entry to towns which are known speeding spots, and they'll be facing your way!
I reckon as long as you watch the 50kph limits carefully, the rest of the open roads will make up for it. :D There'll still be way fewer cameras/traps than we enjoy here in the UK, but they do have on-the-spot fines. I haven't read anywhere whether it will be made illegal to use a satnav warning system (as in Switzerland) or just that they're stopping the sales of new systems. The details will come out in time I guess.... As a sidetrack, I've just been checking up on fuel prices in France, and it looks like "normal" SP95 is beginning to disappear from some stations, the SP98 is fine but there is a lot of debate about the SP95-E10 (10% ethanol) in bikes, Yamaha say don't use it, FI Hondas, BMW, and some others are supposed to be fine, though I'd not risk it in carb engines personally (diaphragms etc risk of damage), and SP98 is the safe way to go and is only a few cents dearer so a no brainer for a holiday tour. |
