No Clutch...and before anyone beats me up...
 

I've been stealthily reading others clutch issues for 2 weeks for the answer :(

Have replaced the clutch plates on my SK3 2003 vintage pointy as they were starting to slip after a good 25k miles worth of abuse, I avidly read the rules back to front that were posted on the torrent site prior to fitting & made sure I put the new ones in exactly the way the old ones came out, replaced the gasket, oil, filter & water.....cleaned it all up & put it all back together again, but now I have no clutch at all, the lever is pringy, but its not actually grabbing the clutch, there is no pressure. It will go into gear, burt only with the engine off.

I did this about 2 weeks ago, have not had time to look at it again since as it's no longer my main means of transport...

Have adjusted the clutch both ways at the lever, but not at adjuster near the front sprocket as I'm not really sure how that works.

Any ideas anyone... I bet this is really simple, I also need to get it MOT'd so really need to get it done this week if I can.

What oil have you used? if its does not have JASO MA stamped on it then its not suitable for bikes with wet clutches and would promote clutch slip like you have experienced.

adjusting the cable will only work if the primary adjuster is correct (the front sprocket one), there are a number of threads covering it so look one of them up( seach under title only "clutch adjustment"), you'll need a 10mm spanner and a flat blade scewdriver, it takes all of 20 minutes max.

BTW - The clutch was slipping in its old guise, but since changes its not even there :(

take sprocket cover off

set cable adjuster on engine casing about half way

set handlebar adjuster all the way in then about 1 turn out

undo locknut on wormgear (the bit you don't know how it works) turn screw in centre out about 2-3 turns then slowly turn it back in till you feel slight 'resistance' then back screw out 1/4 turn. while holding screw with screwdriver tighten locknut without moving the screw position.

adjust the handlebar adjuster till you have a little free play at clutch leaver.

tighten everything up and test the clutch operation. if the clutch is working then put sprocket cover back on.

on the wormgear screw there is a rod at the back you are looking for the screw to just touch this then back out a 1/4 turn.

Thanks Mark, if I throw my spanners out of the toolbox so to speak I'll be straing onto you :) BTW thinking of getting an RC8, but I'm told crap engine reliability.....any views?

How in hell does that sound like clutch slip?
