negatives on raising the tank & removing the air filter lid

i have been reading in the past about getting washers to raise the tank a bit for more air flow into the air box...

also removing the airbox lid...

what are the negatives for this?

i.e. with all the rain we get will any get inside, i remember reading that it's a bit*h to start if you get water in there... will this happen?

do i need to put anything ontop of the filter to stop it moving about etc..

anyone else done this before?

have any photo evidence threads??

thanks!

If your using it on the road and the bike is almost stock then its not worth it. Just removing the lid wont do much other than let the air flow go straight over the airfilter instead of being caught into the airbox and flow through the filter.

My SV1000 has a BMC filter and no top on the airbox. The filter is held in with a custom-fit metal ring that follows the contour of the airbox.

It was fitted by JHS racing and so far as I know I've never had any issues with water ingress. All the insulation had to come off the bottom of the tank and it sounds very loud over about 8k.

Not sure if it's the same for a 650.
