Installing New Front End
Afternoon Forumers.
Just got a new 2001 front end as a replacement for the one I bent all up on my '99 SVS. Everything going smoothly until... 1)Front master cylinder seems (bare with me...) upside down. The dimple and the threaded hole line up in the opposite order. Not just a case of turning it the other way as brake hose to calliper is too short to. Can't remember how it came apart (booo) as it was a while back now. Anything I could have overlooked?? 2)There's a gap between the right (looking from seated) calliper and mounting brackets, and not enough space on the left side. Am I being thick? Have I got the wheel the right way round? - Doesn't seem like I could mount it the other way with the spacer and speedo pickup the way they are. So in short I have once again bitten of more than I can chew and need some good honest advice so I don't look like such a muppet. Thanks! Hope you're all well. Tom |
Any pics?
Make sure the wheel spacers are in the proper order, speedo drive located properly (behind the pins on fork, not in-between) and the right side spacer hasn't got stuck in the wrong position. Can't work out what's wrong with the other bit. As I say, pics would help. |
Re: Installing New Front End
I'll try and get some up over the weekend as I can't make any sense of it. Will check those points out now - Thanks!

Re: Installing New Front End
Ok. Pile on the idiot points generously. Flipped the front wheel around, cured the fitting of the callipers.
BUT. Master cylinder still appears to be 'back to front'. I.e. Hose from brake lever attaches at the opposite side of master cylinder. Left calliper hose attaches to the right hand side and vice versa. Looks like a right mess, and pretty tight on the hoses. Cant switch callipers round as they only mount on that side. Ideally looking to fix whatever's causing this, but it might be possible to disconnect banjo's and swap them. Doesn't solve the lever hose though =/. Arrrghh. Until pictures arrive - Master cylinder protrudes forwards from stem with both screw hole and dimple located correctly (if this helps!). |

Hi ixlr8, No It doesn't, the cylinder is screws onto the underside of the bottom yoke. =/

Re: Installing New Front End
Ah, that's not the master cylinder. That's the splitter.
I don't have one of these anymore but, from memory, the splitter bolts underneath the front of the bottom yoke with the bolt behind the body of the splitter. The left hose goes to the left caliper and right hose to the right caliper. The double banjo bolt should be on the right hand of the splitter. All the "right-hand", "left-hand" and "behind" are based on sitting on the bike. Have you maybe got the splitter fitted on upside down? |
Re: Installing New Front End
As above. My pic shows the master cylinder and remote reservoir on the clip-on for the SVS. With the OEM lines, there is a single rubber line from the master cylinder where you see the aftermarket double braided lines in the pic which then goes to your splitter on the lower yoke as TamSV has described. Good luck.

Re: Installing New Front End
Hi Guys, yes - It's definitely the splitter, sorry for the confusion!
All I can imagine is that who ever took the fairings off the bike in the first place attached the splitter backwards (as it fits well enough like this, just not in the right place). Will have to disconnect it all and swap it around later. Thanks for the help! |
Re: Installing New Front End
Just get braided lines straight to the calipers and miss out the splitter. Bosh!
