GSXR USD conversion speedo solution

Had my GSXR conversion done for a while now. Never really got round to fixing up a speedo solution. It just dawned on me that my MOT is up for renewal in September so I'm gonna need to get my ass into gear and get this sorted.

While looking around last night for info on what I'd need to get I stumbled across this:

It seems Acumen make a speedo upgrade kit for converting your mechanical speedo to an electronic badger for their gear indicators and what not.

I've given them a ring but the girl said she would have to get one of their tech guys to give me a call back...

I'd like to know if anyone else has tried this kit, or if anyone has any opinions on it. Will it work?

A working speedo isnt required for the MOT as there is no way to test it BUT it is required to be legal on the road.

Ah excellent. You definitely sure it wont be discovered on the MOT? Well that at least gives me more time to get it sorted. I really do need to do it though. At the moment my mileage is staying put so I guess you could say that technically it's being clocked. I'm never going to sell it so it's not an issue, but I would like to stop having to guess my speed when going past a GATSO or when the fuzz pull out behind me.

It isnt tested on the mot so you will be fine for the mot.

When you print out the MOT we even have an option for mileage not displayed! Have a look at the on line tester manual. The speedo is not in there.

Brilliant. My mileage is displayed, it's just not going any higher...

Acumen man says it will work easy enough but some issues:

Is the Sv (650s k6) system a 4 pulse unit? If so as there are 5 discs bolts, which means the magnets will have an uneven gap making lower speed readings inaccurate. How do we fix that?

Could someone stick up a photo of what their speedo fix looks like please? This would be a great help.

How hard is it to make up a speedo solution myself? If I can save a bit of cash I'd like to. Is it as simple connecting the 3 wires on the sensor to the bike's wiring and wanging in the magnets?

Also, apart from one of these and some of these, what do I need to buy? (these links were courtesy of Nobylad on my first post)

if you have a spaznav stick the mount to the revcounter face that way you can use it as a speedo.

easy way to tell how many pulses you need is the clocks. if the revcounter is all white then you need 8 magnets. if the revcounter has a black middle then its 4.

if I recall correctly. Although your models slightly different to mine so perhaps wurf double checking. Have you OEM (gsxr) disks on the bike?
There's a really good guide to the gsxr conversion but I lost the link, it's **** easy to fit the above though. Mine took ten minutes (and looks it, but you can take as much time on it as you want).

Edit: ffs, page didn't load your last reply. Yeah it's pretty mcuh bolting the sensor somewhere, stripping and soldering three wires, positioning the magnets. Only the positioning of the sensor takes much thought.

although my gubbings might be different?, i have EBC disc's on mine which aren't to the correct spacings for the speedo to work. I got the correct spacing points and glued the magnets on with an acrylic 2 part mix, doesn't look untidy and I've only lost one that was because i didn't put enough on
