very loud knock
hello guys,
so, i sorted all my electrical problems only for it to be replaced by a very worrying problem. this evening, coming home from work, everything seems normal. i arrive home, stop the bike, open the gate and ride in slowly, i suddenly hear this horrible knock in first gear and low revs, i mean really horrible i thought my engine was about to break. it only happens when in gear and as soon as i rev it above 1700rpm or so it disappears. it doesn't happen in neutral, doesn't happen when riding, only happens when bike is in gear and really really low revs! it sounds really really bad! |
Re: very loud knock
Misfiring will make it knock and shudder. How sure are you that you fixed the electrics...

Re: very loud knock
million percent sure electrics are fixed, this is definitely mechanical, worryingly so!! like i said, doesn't happen at all in neutral or at slightly higher than idle revs, only when in gear and really low revs.

what bike

Re: very loud knock
Chain? Mine does this, makes a huge amount of noise when the bike is pulling with very low revs. Does the same when i put it on a paddock stand and let the rear wheel turn in first gear.
Something to check out? |
Re: very loud knock
its a sv650s '99 i think it quite possibly needs the clutch sorting out, even if that doesn't solve the problem it's still dragging a little. i rode it all day today, it happened a little this morning but nothing at all all day, just the clutch dragging a bit.

Re: very loud knock
Is the knock when you are riding slowly in gear or just when you are stationary, in gear but with clutch in?
|
Re: very loud knock
mostly when i am stationary and in gear,it becomes quite pronounced when i let clutch out slowly just before the bite point. also, it has happened when riding very slowly at really low revs, just before it would stall if i let them drop anymore.

Re: very loud knock
paul what are you doing running round in it! you could be seriously damaging the engine, you could be adding to the cost. What if something seriously happens when your out on it?
Get it off the road and fault find it or bite the bullet and stick it in a garage mate. We dont want another casualty. Please :) |
Re: very loud knock
It sounds like a minor misfire to me that's cutting one pot out when the revs drop under a bit of load.
