DizzyPeg adventures to Lotherton Hall
So, as a family we decide to go out on one of our random 'Peg days off' trips.
Never been to Lotherton Hall, and its cheaper in the car to go than Chatsworth( and admission too) What a lovely day, had a quick trip up there, by DB NAV(read my sense of direction and nose) seen it signposted, so knew where to go. Quick sandwich and an all important ice cream. Up to the house for a gander at all the heirlooms, keep Dylans hands behind his back, can't afford to replace breakables, give him a history lesson etc etc Sit out in the sun, give Oli his tea on the lawn, good meander around the grounds. Now it alll seems to be going swimmingly til..... We go to see the birds. We had enough time to go and have a look at the exotic things on view, shuts at five, last ones in...looks at watch....plenty of time! Marvellous display of Storks, kuckkkkkkaaaburaaas, chinese pheasants, Condors, Snowy owls, Toucans, things I can't pronounce from Asia to the rainforests in S America....oooooooo lovely Gets back to the gate as its 5pm Its locked, padlocked from the inside, no way out, no staff, anywhere, just the birds.:smt099 Oli asleep none the wiser, Dylan needs the bog, and is hungry(usual ten year old then) Goes up to places with staff only, all locked up, nobody home. Sign on gate says, sorry for inconvenience the warden will be back to open gate in 10 minutes. 5:15.......pete buggers off, and re-appears on other side of gate....how you do that, I hopped over the fences in the enclosures, and found a gate, that I could climb over without getting stuck! looks at him odd, crippled old bloke with half a leg jumps gate and doesn't break the other....interesting! 5:50.....Oli awake and chewing on biscuit for occupation....hello love, theres absolutely nobody onsite, I've banged on every door, been through the shop and cafe, could have nicked the til, been to the house, nobody home! But if you go to the gate following all the left paths, theres a bloke with a key (if it fits) Pete, I'm frickin peed off now, I've been waiting nearly an hour, wher the frinkin hell is this bloke. Man with big bunch of keys comes to let us out of the 'service gate' Now, man has big tractor, and Pete said, if you didn;t have that. he'd have got the landy and buldozed the doors off! Why said the bloke, when I GOT A TRACTOR  You realllllly couldn't have scripted it.......a night with the birds......no taa! Bloke said its a first...it could only happen to us:smt120 What makes it worse, neither of us had a phone, he turns his off and leaves it home so work don't ring, and the one occasion I forgot mine............................and this happens. My camera ran out of battery, so the usual evidence of day trip is cut short, personal tour of birds and nowt to show :( Oh ......and we nearly ended up in a six vehicle pile up on the M62, dues to Range Rover man and his fast bad lane sweeping, truck lorry veerrring for a place to go, so he doesn't squash car, the RR has just cut up...hurraah, I gets locked in a cage for an hour, then a cage nearly kills me...........BIG BOTTLE OF RED WINE DESERVED!!!! |
