PC geeks, help please.
Hi Guys,
My sons laptop has developed a fault. He says the he was downloading something and our broadband connection was lost (BT are apparently looking into this as it happens numerous times a day) No matter how it's booted normal, safe mode etc. it gets to the login page (the blue screen with the swirls and the little leaf thing with the bird to the right. But does not show anything else, no accounts, no text and not even the off button. Tried repair options and the repair disc but still ends up at the same point. Grrrr damn you Mr Gates:smt088 Anyone able to help, as he's getting Facebook dt's. |
Re: PC geeks, help please.
Give him some housework/ odd jobs to do..... that cures facebook dt's.
As for the lappy, sorry can't help. |
Re: PC geeks, help please.
Try booting in last good mode (Press F8 after the beep) then if it starts up ok, boot in normal mode.

Re: PC geeks, help please.
Daft I know but make sure there is no disc left in the optical drive.

Re: PC geeks, help please.
No disc, except when I boot from the windows repair disc. Just always ends up at the login page with no option to log in or do anything else.

Re: PC geeks, help please.
When you turn the computer on you should be able to repeatedly press a key (F8, F11, or F12 - something like that) which will put you in to a bios recovery mode. There may be a hidden recovery partition on there or you can recover from the CD.

Re: PC geeks, help please.
F2 for BIOS, F8 gives the different start options. Van boot from a disc but always ends up at the same page with no option to log in to any accounts. Does not boot in safe mode.

Re: PC geeks, help please.
Is there an option on there to either check the disk for errors or some kind of disk management? (It will scan your harddrive and repair any damage which may help)
Otherwise you will have to wipe and reinstall. You'll lose all your stuff but you will have a working computer. |
Re: PC geeks, help please.
I made a set of recovery discs when the machine was new, in the BIOS I've selected boot from dvd drive. It won't do a reinstall or repair. The Acer recovery page just hangs. It boot normally to the login page, the blue one as described. But there are none of the usual user icons and the off button is not present at the bottom of the screen.
