It boffins..... help need
Just got an update to Lotus notes at work.
Now I usually have the forum open on IE all day but I can noe specify a website to be active via my lotus note home page. the company can monitor all the traffic anyway so is it better to have it up as seperate application in IE or through my Lotus Notes or because they are sneaky beakys anyway it doesn't really matter. Ta muchly |
Re: It boffins..... help need
makes no difference technically. Personally I believe that a browser should be used for browsing, not another application pretending to be a browser.

Re: It boffins..... help need
Notes used to be dire for browsing at my last place.
We used Notes for the emails/ contract/ data archive and IE or firefox for the net |
Re: It boffins..... help need
the other point is probably the ability of the app or browser to let you browse in the most secure way. Lets not get into the ins and outs about IE vs <insert your fav browser> but unless you are using IE6 then the chances are that whatever browser you choose will be a more secure way than through Notes to browse the net from a work client.
I personally use a variety of browsers all the time, partly because of my job but also due to the characteristics of certain websites and how they perform in each browser. I tend to use Google Chrome for personal browsing, or more recently Google Chrome Frame as a plug-in to IE although I dont think that the forum site is enabled for Chrome Frame. |
Re: It boffins..... help need
depends on the version of notes you have,
generally the default settings force all traffic over the notes server and I can tell you we IT bofs hate this as it creates additional load on the server/network. The ltest copies of notes on the other hand can be set to use IE from inside the notes client and it all works just nicely using your own pc for all network/internet access. If you can set this do, other than that no matter what you do you'll be monitored regardless. |
