Hot Frame..!

Evening all

Quick newbie question after nearly two weeks of having my SV. This is only my second bike and the first was a 125 so this might explain my problem

I feel that the bike gets VERY hot. On my commute home from work (roughly about 5 miles through rush hour traffic) the frame of the bike gets very hot. It's not burning-hot-exhaust hot but not something you would want your leg leaning against with anything less than textiles/leathers (thank god for that!). I am able to touch it with my hands but not keep my hand on it.

Now, I did mention that I had a 125 before and this is maybe why I think it's too hot as my 125 didn't generate (as) much heat.

What do you think? Are your SV's the same?

Yea, I noticed that myself only this week but it's perfectly normal. Large frame area connected directly to hot engine. Didn't notice it on my last bike - GSX750 as it was fully faired. The SV frame is on show a bit more. Seems to be about 30 to 40C so 'hand hot' after 15 miles at 60mph. Will be more if slower and less airflow. So don't wear shorts :)

I wondered if this was normal the other day but apparently it is. Just heat from a very hot engine and exhaust etc, it just radiates through the bike.

You'll find its much hotter on the right hand side than the left(as you sit on the bike)

Have a peep at it, you'll see the engine is a lot closer on that side. Used to drive me mad, when mine was very ill, especially after engine swaps!

After having to go slow in traffic and the coolant temperature rises.
Just love that blast of hot air up the right hand side of the bike when the fan cuts in( radiator fan is on the right hand side also [pointy]).

Yeh it does make logical sense and I thought that when I was having a wee feel :-dd

And your right, it just adds another reason to the list of why shorts aren't a great idea!
