Sticking gears

Hey peeps

I own a SK4 and has done nearly 17,000 miles. Recently I have had problems with my gears sticking. Sometimes I have to bang the gear down or up to get it in gear. Now this does not happen all the time, nut most of the time.

Took my bike for a service and the mechanic couldn't figure out what the hell it is that's making the gears stick. It doesn't need a new gear box and the clutch cable was replaced about 800 miles ago. Has anyone had this problem before?

Cheers
D

Re: Sticking gears

Check for corrosion binding the gear lever to the peg causing it to stick. common fault.

OK thanks. How do I do that? FYI, I am no mechanic but am keen to learn :-)

Is the oil level inbetween full and empty? Possibly it's overfilled?

Clutch cable may need adjusting?

Where the gear lever pivots around the footrest, just squirt some penetrating oil in there to start with and wiggle it about......if that cures the problem then it would be a good idea to take the gear lever off and grease it up properly.

Overtight chain or loads of crud round the front sprocket area or sid squid clutch adjustment ( see anna's thread here )as sk said.
